S/Y A by Nobiskrug
From the docks of its builder, Nobiskrug shipyard in Kiel, Germany, onlookers witnessed a momentous delivery of the world’s largest sailing yacht, the revolutionary 142.80-metre (468’6” ft) S/Y A. The 10th largest yacht in the world, Sailing Yacht A entered into the Superyachts.com Top 100 upon her launch back in 2015. A series of intensive sea trials and final outfitting phases placed Sailing Yacht A in the global spotlight, given her distinctive design by Philippe Starck in an unofficial world debut.
The owner of the previous M/Y A today receives not only one of the largest but also one of the most advanced yachts on the water. Its three sailing masts hail as the tallest and most highly loaded freestanding composites in the world whilst the mainmast soars some 100m above the waterline, equipped to power a yacht with a gross tonnage of 12,600 GT.
Barracuda Superyacht Project by H2 Design & Turquoise
Currently under construction in Turkey, the 74-meter (242 ft) superyacht project Barracuda is the next evolution of style between H2 Design and Turquoise. Set to take to the water in 2019, we take a closer look at one of Turkey’s next big new-builds. Not only is Barracuda a take on the latest 77-meter, but a new look at previous launches over 70-meters that arrived in 2011 and 2013. Using the tried and tested hull form, H2 has brought a flavour of Talisman C to the exterior, with a masculine, timeless feel that reflects the progressive viewpoint of Turquoise Yachts. Her interior, effortlessly styled by Ken Freivokh, aiming to be supremely practical and elegant.
Guiding considerations have been the enjoyment of the sea and maximum integration between decks. The open spaces on board cover both traditional and innovation, with expansive sun decks and opening platform aft and no less than three huge shell doors. The beach club opens on all three sides to large platforms, which can be used to be relax, swim or to board the yacht from tenders. The tender garage itself is designed to hold a 10-metee luxury limousine tender and a highly practical 6-metee day tender for guests. There is an additional 4.5m crew tender forward, and a dedicated Jet Ski garage, which would allow to stack up to four jet skis.
M/Y Aviva by Abeking & Rasmussen
German yacht-builder Abeking & Rasmussen has today announced the official launch of the 98-meter superyacht Aviva, providing an unprecedented look at the first superyacht to enter the Top 100 in 2017. Aviva’s striking blue hull and modern, seamlessly styled profile – designed by Reymond Langton Design and Toby Silverton – provides the bold first impression exterior of the largest superyacht ever to leave the Abeking & Rasmussen yard. Aviva’s design is an evolution of her predecessor of the same name, the 68m superyacht Aviva seen over the world. With a sleek and modern exterior, the interiors are a ‘mystical’ conception which conceals an ocean going first, a full sized padel tennis court measuring 20m x 10m x 6m high.
The powerful and curvaceous hull is also a milestone in itself, requiring extensive new research and testing to ensure superior seakeeping abilities combined with a 20% decrease in drag. Engineering on board ensures less engine input and fuel consumption is reduced with a full speed of 20 knots to match. Aviva is even fitted with a Hybrid Drive system which allows the yacht to run at up to 11 knots without the use of the main engines, using electric motors only to create a smooth, silent and environmentally efficient superyacht.
M/Y Canados 808 Maximus by Canados
Introduced at the Cannes Yachting Festival last year, the latest Canados 808 ‘Maximus’ is preparing for a world debut at the autumn boat shows.
Set to be based in Palma de Mallorca, the first Canados 808 is an idyllic island cruiser with a layout notable for space and open experience on the water. Fully customizable interiors, in-house built furniture and two different styles of layout offering owner’s suite on either main or lower deck are just some of the options within, while the external spaces offer open and well-protected areas to rest or entertain.
The style of the Canados 808 Maximus itself is a modern, sporty take on the motor yacht with a length of 24-meters and a Kevlar superstructure to reduce weight and increase speed and stability. The first 808 to be launched will be powered with twin V12 MAN – 1,900 hp coupled to V-Drives that provide Maximus with a cruising speed of 25 – 30 knots top speed.
